The San Diego Seals know they're in the playoffs. They're in first place in the National Lacrosse League's Western Division.
But the road trip they just completed showed the expansion team it still has work to do if it wants to win a championship. On Friday night the Seals lost 17-10 to the Georgia Swarm (who at 12-4 is tied for the best record in the NLL) and got off to a terrible start in a 17-14 loss on Saturday to the New England Black Wolves.
The Black Wolves jumped out to a 10-2 lead and were up 15-7 at halftime and amazingly the Seals almost came back to win. But believe it or not they nearly came all the way back.
San Diego outscored New England 7-2 in the second half and hopefully they can take that momentum into their next game because it's going to be a big one. The Seals' lead in the West has dwindled to a half game over the defending NLL champion Saskatchewan Rush.
On Friday the Rush come to Pechanga Arena to see who gets to hold on to first place. The opening faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and a sellout crowd like the Seals had for their home opener would go a long way to helping San Diego stay on top.
