Sea Lion Pup Born on Silver Strand Bike Path

The two cuddled together on the edge of the path and cones were set up so bikers would avoid the sea lions.

Oh, baby! A sea lion caused quite the disruption to bikers in Coronado when she gave birth to a new pup Wednesday morning.

The new mom delivered a healthy California Sea Lion pup on a Silver Strand bike path before sunrise, SeaWorld San Diego officials said.

The two cuddled together on the edge of the path and cones were set up so bikers would avoid the sea lions.

The area was near a roadway and was not a safe location for the newborn or its mother, so rescuers with SeaWorld San Diego were called to escort them to safety.

A crew member placed the pup near the edge of San Diego Bay's water and the mother followed.

SeaWorld San Diego wants to remind residents to not approach sea lions if they encounter them in the wild.

Sea Lions are protected species under the Marine Mammal Protection Act, meaning it is illegal to hunt or harass the marine mammal.
