SDPD Investigating Armed Robbery at Rolando Yogurt Shop

Police are investigating a robbery at a Yogurtland restaurant in Rolando and are looking into whether it is connected to two Tuesday robberies in Clairemont.

San Diego Police Department investigators say a man in a burgundy sweatshirt approached the yogurt shop clerk and flashed a gun in his waistband at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The employee stepped back from the register and the man grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash before running out.

“We live off El Cajon. From what we know there are some good areas and some bad areas and this area is so-so, maybe,” Yogurtland customer Christy Nahai said.

Yogurtland had to close its doors to customers for a few hours while police investigated the crime.

Detectives at the scene told NBC 7 the description of the suspect matched the descriptions reported in two robberies in Clairemont on Tuesday.

SDPD believes the same suspect robbed a Fred Loya Insurance building on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard and a VIP Spa just down the road. In both cases, police say the suspect brandished a small handgun, took the money and ran.

Investigators say it’s too early to say those two robberies are connected to Wednesday's.
