San Diego Gas & Electric responded to a gas leak in the City Heights area Wednesday afternoon.
A third-party contractor struck a half-inch pipe near Landis and 41st streets east of Interstate 15 before 9:20 a.m., SDG&E said.
The gas agency was called to determine the source of the leak and shut off the line.
Crews initially had difficulty capping the leak. A spokesperson for SDG&E said that if the leak could not be capped quickly, a four-block radius could be evacuated.
Ultimately, no evacuations were ordered and the leak was capped by 10:15 a.m.
Crews remained on scene to make permanent repairs to the line, an SDG&E spokesperson said.
No injuries were reported.
