Car Crashes Into Bonsall Power Pole, ‘Hard Closure' in Place for Surrounding Roadway

A road closure was put into effect from the 5000 block of South Mission Road to State Route 76

Power lines toppled to the ground after a car crashed into a pole in Bonsall Tuesday night causing power outages to hundreds of residents in the area, according to the North County Fire Department.

The incident occurred on South Mission Road at around 6:40 p.m.

A SigAlert was issued for the area as North County Fire District (NCFD) said a “hard closure” blocked off South Mission Road from its 5000 block to State Route 76.

The area was cleared by 9 a.m. Wednesday.

The NCFD said the crash brought down some power lines, and San Diego Gas and Electric confirmed the downed power lines caused an outage for more than 1,400 customers in the area at one point.

According to SDG&E's outage map, residents in Pala Mesa Resort, Pala Mesa Village, Bonsall, Camino Del Rey Downs, and Gopher Canyon were affected.

SDG&E said this outage began at 6:36 p.m. and estimated the power was restored by 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Another vehicle was involved in the incident, according to the California Highway Patrol, but it is unknown if it was damaged by the crashed truck or by the downed pole.

North County Fire and the CHP responded to the scene.

No injuries were reported.
