A 2-year-old girl drowned Saturday in a tragic accident in a backyard swimming pool in Oceanside, police confirmed.
Officials at the Oceanside Police Department received a call around 2 p.m. reporting a drowning at a home in the 1800 block of Moreno Street.
Family said they were getting ready to take a day trip to Fiesta Island when the girl went missing. One of the adults later found her in the pool. They pulled her out, but she was unconscious and not breathing.
Family members began CPR until police and paramedics arrived on the scene.
The child was rushed to the hospital by ambulance an although medics tried to revive the toddler, she died, police said.
The family sent NBC 7 the following statement:
“Kendall is the light of everyone’s lives. She brought happiness and joy to everyone who was lucky enough to come in contact with her. She is cherished by her family and is a beautiful and smart little girl. We will miss her every second of every day.”
