Man Suffers Burn Injuries After Reported Explosion in Backyard: SDPD

A man has suffered burn injuries after a reported explosion in a backyard of a home in Valencia Park, the San Diego Police Department confirms.

The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. on the 700 block of South Valencia Parkway, officials said.

A 38-year-old man suffered shrapnel-type injuries to his arms and face after the explosion occurred in the backyard of the residence, San Diego Police Department Lt. Mike Ramsay confirmed.

Hazmat and bomb squad reported to the scene to help out SDFD.

SDFD reported earlier that the man burned himself with gunpowder, but Ramsay said nothing about what caused the explosion can be confirmed as the investigation is ongoing.

The victim was transferred to UC San Diego's Burn Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation will continue Saturday morning.
