Officials have identified a San Diego man who died when his scooter crashed into an SUV in Bankers Hill.

Corey Batz, 28, died from injuries suffered in the collision, the San Diego County Medical Examiner's (ME) office confirmed Tuesday. The crash happened Monday just after 11 p.m. on 1st Avenue where Laurel Street starts to level off.

San Diego Police said the man driving the scooter slammed in the back of an SUV. The ME said Batz was on a 150 CC Scooter driving up a steep hill in the 100 block of West Laurel Street when he rear-ended an SUV parked at a stop light.

The ME report said Batz's body struck the rear of the SUV and he was thrown from the scooter, coming to rest in the street.

The driver of the SUV was not injured, police said. The SUV driver called 911 and performed CPR on Batz at the scene until paramedics arrived.
