Wednesday marks the start of Santa Ana season in San Diego.
The day’s unusual weather contains all the ingredients for extreme weather, according to NBC 7 San Diego’s Whitney Southwick.
The day's weather includes moisture in the morning, followed by warm temperatures in the afternoon. Southern California’s infamous Santa Ana winds will also kick up in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Wednesday morning, the NWS posted "red flag warnings" in several Southern California regions. By the late morning, the warnings of high fire danger were cancelled, but the low humidity still poses a risk for fires, Southwick said.
Northeast winds will be blowing at 40 miles per hour. Humidity will drop notably in the afternoon in the mountains and foothills of San Diego County. The conditions will die down by the weekend, according to the NWS.
CalFire is on high alert today as the winds pick up, a spokesperson said. They will be monitoring the weather throughout the day and are ready to respond should the weather facilitate any fires.
Captain Mike Mohler said Wednesday's weather may be deceiving. Some areas experienced early morning showers, but because the humidity will drop, there is still a risk for wildfires, he said.
