Two young men were shot in the street near Otay Mesa late Thursday and one of them died shortly after getting to the hospital, officials said.
San Diego Police are investigating the shooting that happened around 11 p.m. in Palm City, a community north of State Route 905 and east of Interstate 5.
Officers found two young men, ages 25 and 22, in the street and on the sidewalk when they arrived to the scene on Palm Avenue near Desty Street.
Emergency personnel rushed both men to the hospital. The 25-year-old man died of his injuries. Officials have said he’s from Chula Vista but have not released his name.
A family member identified the man killed in the shooting as Robert Soria. They say he was married and had one son. Soria's cousin by marriage, Alex Valladares of Imperial Beach, was injured and hospitalized according to the family member.
Investigators have been collecting evidence and questioning witnesses.
Witnesses report a man walked up to the one of the victims and began arguing, police said.
The other victim then walked up.
That's when witnesses say the gunman pulled out a handgun and shot both victims.
The gunman, described as a man in his 20's, wearing blue pants and a blue shirt, fled in an unknown direction. There is no suspect vehicle description.
A fatal shooting was reported near 3rd Avenue and Palomar Street an hour after this incident.
Investigators say they have been and will be in contact with Chula Vista police throughout the day to see if there is any connection.
