San Diego County Sheriff's Department Experiencing Trouble Getting 911 Calls

Dispatchers with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department experienced difficulty Tuesday getting 911 calls from people using Verizon phones.

In a statement released just after 2 p.m., Lt. Karen Stubkjaer said the intermittent issue was resolved by Verizon.

Dispatchers and callers were unable to hear each other, she explained. However, no details were given as to what caused the problem.

Stubkjaer said other agencies were also reporting similar problems.

"The safety of our customers is our utmost priority. Earlier today, Verizon engineers identified an issue affecting some 911 calls in the areas served by the Carlsbad Police Department, El Cajon Police Department, and the San Diego County Sheriff PSAPs. Our network engineers worked quickly to restore service and will continue to closely monitor the situation," said Heidi Flato, spokesperson for Verizon.
