San Diego Wakes to Rain, Potential for Snow

A large band of rain pushed through the southern portion of San Diego County early Tuesday as a powerful storm swept the region and brought the potential for snow in our mountains.

Rain was expected to fall in the foothills and the mountains throughout the day although the showers should be more scattered.

On Monday, San Diego received .17” of rain, Carlsbad received .32” with Rancho Bernardo getting .59” in the first day of the storm. Julian received 1.09” of precipitation.

β€œThe further inland you go, the amounts climb,” said NBC 7 meteorologist Jodi Kodesh.

The storm may even produce flurries as the clouds are forced up over the higher terrain.

Before 4 a.m., a big rig fishtailed and landed on the center divide of northbound Interstate 805 near National City. Debris from the crash flew into the southbound lane striking another car.

The truck driver was shaken up but not injured.

"I lose control. I tried to keep my truck straight, The truck started shaking - right to the left, right to the left. I lose control all the way and hit to the wall," said driver Miguel Juarez.

Check Traffic

The crash shut down two highway lanes for more than two hours. The truck was towed away around 6:30 a.m. Two people were transported to a nearby hospital.
