Arrest in Collision, Attempted Carjacking in Bostonia

A man who almost clipped a San Diego County Sheriff's official's vehicle on an East County highway Tuesday tried to escape arrest by attempting to carjack a vehicle, according to deputies.

Raymundo Calderone, 27, was arrested and accused of attempted carjacking and possibly parole violation following the incident near Greenfield and Ballantyne in the Bostonia community in unincorporated El Cajon.

A sheriff's department employee called for uniformed deputies just before 9 a.m. when a man made an unsafe lane change while traveling south on State Route 67.

Detective David Hale said he called his supervisors to get a marked car in the area and deputies stopped the suspect at Bradley and Graves.

However, the driver fled the scene and in the process collided with another car off Greenfield, then crashed into the curb.

The suspect ran from the car, tried to stop and carjack another driver, Hale said.

Using a helicopter and a K-9, deputies were able to locate the suspect hiding in backyards inside the mobile home park.

Magnolia Elementary was placed on temporary lockdown. School was not in session so no students were affected.
