San Diego Native Playing With Tiger Woods at Torrey Pines

Xander Schauffele gets his first taste of Tigermania at Farmers Insurance Open

Xander Schauffele went to Scripps Ranch High School and San Diego State University. He's the current leader in the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup points standings. He's one of the best young golfers on the planet playing at Torrey Pines, what basically amounts to his home course.

And he's not even going to be the most popular player in his group at this week's Farmers Insurance Open.

Schauffele will be playing with Tony Finau and Tiger Woods for the first two rounds of the annual PGA Tour event along the San Diego coast. This is the first time Xander will get to play with Woods, who has won eight times as a professional at Torrey Pines (including the 2008 U.S. Open, the last of his 14 Major championships).

This is not only a chance for Schauffele to see what it's like to have a Woods-sized gallery follow him around. It's a chance to impress the most famous player in golf history. Woods is the captain for this year's United States Presidents Cup team so if Xander is not in the top-8 in points to earn an automatic spot on the team he could plant a seed in Tiger's mind to make him a captain's pick.

The three other featured groups for 2019 are defending champion Jason Day, Rory McIlroy, and Adam Scott ... Brandt Snedeker, Jon Rahm, and Rickie Fowler ... and Justin Rose, Billy Horschel, and Jordan Spieth.

Strong winds in San Diego could continue through the weekend making for tough conditions at Torrey Pines. Who do you think will handle the tough conditions the best?

All the groups and tee times will be revealed on Tuesday afternoon. The first round starts on Thursday morning on the North and South Courses.
