An active-duty service member killed in a car accident this weekend has been identified as 24-year-old Aaron Dominique Buford.
Buford served with the U.S. Navy.
The crash happened shortly after 3 a.m. on Sunday when Buford drifted off of the road on southbound Interstate 5 south of Cesar Chavez Parkway and struck a pillar of the Coronado Bridge.
According to the California Highway Patrol, firefighters tried to rescue Buford from the wreckage but were unable to work around the mangled vehicle. He died at the scene.
