Rockin' Around the Race Track

Walk, run or cheer at the San Diego Rock n’ Roll Marathon.

The Race is back with over 30,000 dedicated runners, plenty of roadside entertainment and all in the name of charity.

The 26.2 mile-long marathon, 13.1 mile-long half marathon and the 4 to 8-mile leg relay races will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. In past years, the Race has been able to raise nearly $142.8 million (net) for the LLS and make significant contributions to blood cancer research.

Motivating the runners, aside from cheering fans, will be bands like: Bigfellas, Graceland, Bedford Grove and the ‘63eatles. Even, reality star of the show LA Ink, Kat Von D will be there, running the anchor leg of an “LA Ink” relay team.

The wheelchair race start is at 6:10 a.m., while all other races begin at 6:15 a.m.

Since the race will last the majority of the day, make sure to be aware and plan ahead. If you’re going to be anywhere near downtown on Sunday, you may want to take note of these highway closures:

Highway 163 will have closures between 2 a.m. until noon on the day of the race; parts of Interstate 8 will be closed off from 2 a.m. tonight until noon on race day, Interstate 5 will shut down from 4 a.m. to noon and Interstate 805 will be closed from 2 a.m. to noon, as well.
