Rio Fire Ablaze West of Rancho Santa Fe, Started by Man Mowing Weeds: Cal Fire San Diego

The fire was started by a man mowing weeds in the area, Cal Fire San Diego said

A vegetation fire broke out to the west of Rancho Santa Fe Tuesday afternoon around 1 p.m.

The fire grew to roughly 2 acres, according to Cal Fire San Diego.

It began near the intersection of Artesian Road and Rio Vista Road.

A man was mowing weeds with a tractor, trying to clear brush in the area, when he accidentally started the fire, according to Cal Fire San Diego.

There were homes in the area, but there have been no reports of damages at this time, Cal Fire San Diego said.

Cal Fire San Diego and Rancho Santa Fe Fire were dispatched to the scene.

One helicopter made several drops on the fire.

The Rio Fire stopped spreading after nearly 30 minutes, Cal Fire San Diego announced.
