$6K Reward Offered for Armed Robbers

Suspects approached Big 5 employees as they were unloading truck

Police are offering a hefty reward for assistance in finding three masked gunmen who robbed a Big 5 sporting goods store in Oceanside on December 5.

The Oceanside Police Department said they will give $6,000 to anyone with information that might lead to the suspects' arrest.

The high reward is necessary since the suspects stole shotguns, rifles and knives from the store, said Lt. Leonard Mata with the Oceanside Police Department.

"These guns are often used in crimes," Mata said. "It's not like you are going to go on Craigslist and sell a rifle and shotgun because they have to be registered."

The suspects approached four employees unloading a delivery truck in the back of a Big 5 Sporting Goods store on Vista Way at about 5:20 a.m., according to a police report.

One of the suspects held up an assault rifle as the other two suspects forced the employees into the store’s restroom and barricaded them inside.

The manager found the employees in the bathroom when he arrived about 40 minutes later and called the police.

The employees were not injured, and the suspects are still outstanding, police said.

San Diego Crime Stoppers contributed $1,000 to the reward money.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery is urged to call Crime Stoppers or the Oceanside Police Department.
