Report: Violent Robber Nabs 9 Diamond Rings

A robber held a gun to a 75-year-old jewelry store owner's head and walked off with about $300,000 in merchandise, according to a published report.

It happened at the Janetelli Jewelers store on Camino Del Mar just after 2:30 p.m. Thursday, officials told the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The robber threatened to kill the shopkeeper, forced him to lie on the floor, took nine diamond rings from the display case and fled, deputies said.

The owner reported seeing the man various times before, so deputies believe he may have been casing the joint., according to the paper.

Workers across the street at the Epazote Oceanview Steakhouse told deputies the man had come in before the robbery and had sat at the bar and drunk a beer.
