CHP: 318 “Rainy Day” Crashes Reported in San Diego

Wednesday brought some much-needed rain to San Diego County, but with those showers came hundreds of car accidents.

According to rainy day statistics released Wednesday night by the California Highway Patrol, a total of 318 car accidents were reported across CHP jurisdictions, including freeways, in San Diego County between 12:01 a.m. and 9:15 p.m.

The peak of those crashes happened during rush hour, between 4 p.m. and 5:59 p.m. During that time span, 94 collisions were reported, the CHP said.

Between 6 p.m. and 7:59 p.m., 55 crashes were reported, and 60 collisions occurred between 8 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.

The stats show that from 12:01 a.m. to 3:59 p.m., a total of 109 crashes were reported.

Just to put the numbers into perspective, the California Highway Patrol says there are 50 to 75 crashes reported in San Diego County on a normal, “good weather” day.
