Wrong-Way Driver Kills Self, Another in I-15 Crash South of Temecula

A wrong-way driver killed himself and another near Temecula after a police chase ended in a crash Friday night.

Jacob Rodriguez was said to be driving on the wrong side of Interstate 15 from Deer Springs Road around 11 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP failed to stop the Rodriguez near State Route 76. He continued north in the southbound lanes.

Rodriguez, in a Hyundai Elantra, then crashed into a Honda Civic near the Rainbow Valley Boulevard overcrossing at around 11:15 p.m., according to CHP.

The driver of the Civic was 20-year-old Jessica Neumeyer from Murrieta. She was pronounced dead at the crash site.

Rodriguez was taken to Palomar Medical Center where he later died, CHP said.

Officers said he may have been impaired while driving.

All southbound I-15 lanes were closed until 2:30 a.m.
