Storm Moves Ashore, Brings Lightning & Thunder

Tropical moisture streaming across Southern California has brought showers, lightning and some downpours to San Diego.

There was a band of rain just off the coast of San Diego and moving east as of 6:50 a.m.

“We’ve had a few pockets move ashore,” NBC 7 Meteorologist Jodi Kodesh said. “It’s going to continue to move north.”

Kodesh said there was a secondary band of rain off the coast that’s prompted the National Weather Service to issue a coastal hazard statement for lightning before 7 a.m.

The NWS says the showers and thunderstorms will continue through the afternoon as a weak low-pressure trough moves through.
