Pyles' Rock August Nights

Another month, another calendar of shows. When does it stop? Never, actually. The shows keep coming and they keep getting better and better. I can't wait for the Music Box to open -- oh my! Take a look at my stellar live-music picks for you in an easy-to-use format. I can't list them all, but I highlighted one show for each night; have at it!

Aug. 1: Mr. Tube & the Flying Objects, the Schizophonics, the New Kinetics, Madly, and Patrick Dennis at Casbah. All of these amazing bands are filling in for Lucy's Fur Coat, who had to cancel two shows due to health reasons.
Aug. 2: "Welcome to Rock N Roll Heaven - A Memorial for Steve Rodriguez" -- the Dragons, Uncle Joe's Big Ol'Driver, Saint Shameless, Steve Poltz, DJ's Dennis the Menace and Louis Mello at Casbah. Come celebrate an amazing local musician, who went way too soon.
Aug. 3: Hocus, Color You, Jagged Lines at Casbah. All local bill! Keepin' it local!
Aug. 4: The Wyldz, Wicked Tongues, Just Like Jenna at Casbah. From Paris, they moved to Austin and they rock, ladies and gentlemen: The Wyldz. With some great local talent opening the show.
Aug. 5: Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Vinyl Williams at Casbah. This will be fun, fun, fun; they always are.
Aug. 6: Echo & the Bunnymen at Humphreys Concerts By the Bay. '80s cult legends!
Aug. 7: Thievery Corporation at the Del Mar Racetrack. Get your groove on and watch their bass player, Hash, who used to be in local band Go Go Go Airheart.
Aug. 8: Cowboy Mouth and Behind the Wagon at Soda Bar. They have been going strong since the '90s and this will be an intimate show.
Aug. 9: Screeching Weasel, the Queers, Mr. T Experience at the Observatory North Park. A certain style of punk and three bands that are the kings of it!
Aug. 10: !!!, Icy Demons at Casbah. Clap Clap Clap, Chk Chk Chk -- call them what you want and go see them!
Aug. 11: Joe "King" Carrasco, Action Andy & the Hi-Tones at Casbah. Nuevo Wavo '80s, tequila reggae '90s, Cha Cha Mex, Tex-Mex rock.
Aug. 12: Hot Chip, Yacht at SOMA. Let's have a dance party, but leave the glow sticks at home.
Aug. 13: The Struts at House of Blues. Rock & roll from the UK and they got cool hair.
Aug. 14: Buddy Banter and Splavender at Maryjane's Underground inside the Hard Rock Hotel -- Free with RSVP here.
Aug. 15: The B-52's at Humphreys Concerts By the Bay. Are you a 'rock lobster'?
Aug. 16: F---ed Up, Doomsquad at Casbah. I don't know what to tell you here, 'cause I don't want to scare you. See for yourself.
Aug. 17: AJ Froman, Brothers Weiss and Diamond Lakes at the Casbah. Awesome, all-local bill! Support San Diego music!
Aug. 18: The Velvet Teen at Seven Grand. Indie rock and craft cocktails.
Aug. 19: Metz, Retox, Dilly Dally at Casbah. Tonight will be epic and I can't wait!
Aug. 20: The Drums, Froth at the Irenic. I heard this might be sold out, are you bummed?
Aug. 21: Morrissey at the Observatory North Park. Two nights with this legend and I believe both are sold out -- try StubHub.
Aug. 22: The B-Side Players, Haute Chile, Satchmode, Los Hollywood, Santana Soul - Tribute to Santana at Harbor Fest in Bayside Park Chula Vista. This looks like fun and is family friendly.
Aug. 23: Savages at Casbah. London based band that is the cure to your ailments.
Aug. 24: Lord Howler, Ape Machine, Black Pussy at Casbah. Rock, rock and more rock!
Aug. 25: King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Mild High Club, and Amerikan Bear at Soda Bar. Music for the garage, so it must be garage rock.
Aug. 26: Badabing, Well Hung Heart, Mr. Clit & the Pink Cigarettes, Omega 3 at the Casbah. Do you feel me on this one?
Aug. 27: Melvins at Casbah. They can be blamed for grunge, but aren't really grungy.
Aug. 28: "Weird Al" Yankovic at the Del Mar Racetrack. Comic genius!
Aug. 29: D.I. at Brick By Brick. Punk for your attitude adjustment.
Aug. 30: Incubus, Deftones, Death From Above 1979, and the Bots at Sleep Train Amphitheatre. Big rock show, but I just want to see the first three bands.
Aug. 31: Garth Algar, Oddball, Cryptic Languages at Casbah. Keepin' it local and real, it's a night of rock.
