Pursuit Ends with Canyon Search

A police chase ended this afternoon when the driver jumped out of the suspect car in Talmadge and tried to hide in a nearby canyon.

Officers ran the plates of a 1995 Honda Civic driving on Main Street and found it was reported as stolen.

When officers tried to pull over the driver and two passengers, the car took off at high speeds, according to police.

The car turned onto I-15 northbound, failed to yield and caused a 2-car accident, police said.

The driver exited on Adams Avenue, drove through Talmadge and jumped out of the car in the 4500 block of East Talmadge.

Two passengers went one way, according to police, and the driver went the other. He tried to hide in a nearby canyon but with help from ABLE, officers were able to find him and arrest him, according to an SDPD spokesperson.

The driver, 33-year old Antonio Figueroa, faces charges including driving without a license, possession of burglary tools, evading police and auto theft.

The two other suspects are juveniles and have been turned over to their parents.
