Cops: Gunman Tried to Snatch Girl, 11

A child told police she was approached by an armed man

San Diego police are looking for a man who allegedly approached a child walking alone near a North County elementary school and brandished a gun.

Parents in Poway were alerted to the incident Tuesday in an email from school administrators.

An 11-year old girl told police a stranger walked up to her with a gun near Willow Grove Elementary School around 4:15 p.m. That school is located at 14727 Via Azul, in the Santa Luz area of the county. She said she screamed and ran away, according to police.

The child reported the man was driving an older, light blue sports car with a black top and tinted windows, according to an email from Dennis Panganiban, Assistant Principal at Meadowbrook Middle School.

The vehicle had rust spots, tinted windows and a small back window framed in black. Officials pu Willow Grove Elementary school on lockdown Tuesday following the incident, according to police.

Meadowbrook Middle School is located east of I-15 at 12320 Meadowbrook Lane.  Panganiban used the incident to ask parents to remind their children not to speak to strangers and to walk away quickly if approached by a stranger.

San Diego police are working on a composite sketch of the suspect. Anyone with any information should contact the San Diego County Sheriff’s substation in Poway at (858) 513-2800.
