A man in Poway died Saturday after he was shot in the stomach by a bullet that entered his apartment, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.
Officials received a call around 3 a.m. from Pomerado Hospital saying a man who was shot in the stomach came into the hospital. The victim, identified by deputies as Michael Walker, 38, died about 15 minutes later.
Officials went to the victim's home at Sofi Apartments on Midland Road across from the Wal-Mart and the U.S. Post Office to investigate. They soon discovered the bullet entered the victim's residence from a nearby apartment.
Deputies then questioned three people who were in that nearby apartment and arrested 20-year-old Manuula Save on suspicion of first-degree murder.
Investigators have not said what Save was doing with a gun, why it went off or if the two knew each other.
Walker's wife, Christina sent NBC 7 the following statement:
"He was the most amazing man. He was my big teddy bear. So sweet, kind and loving! There was never a day that went by that he didn’t tell me he loved me... I felt very loved. He was a die-hard Philadelphia sports fan even though he was native to California."
NBC 7 also learned Walker was an employee with Jerome's Furniture. The company released a statement concerning Walker's death.
"We are shocked and saddened by the loss of our teammate, Michael. His absence will be felt not only in the Delivery Dispatch department where he stood out for his work but also company-wide. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Michael’s family and friends. We will miss him," said Jim Navarra, Executive Vice President.
