Pot Plants Found After SWAT Standoff

El Cajon police made a surprising discovery after negotiating an end to a four-hour standoff.

A fight broke out between father and son inside an El Cajon home Sunday, with the son threatening to kill his father officials said.

A call to 911 brought out SWAT and Crisis Negotiations teams to the home at 997 Avocado around 4 p.m.

The father was able to safely get of the house. The son, who had barricaded himself inside the home, had firearms registered in his name police said.

Several blocks around the house were closed off.

After nearly four hours, 31-year-old David Wittmer peacefully surrendered.

Once inside the home, police officers found a gun and what they described as an active marijuana grow.

There were 27 mature pot plants in one room as well as additional plants in a second room according to a police news release.

Wittmer was booked into county jail on charges of making a criminal threat, cultivating marijuana and possession of marijuana for sale.
