The San Diego Police Department is investigating after a man was shot Sunday night near Rolando, according to authorities.
The shooting was reported near the intersection of University and College Avenues at about 10 p.m. At the scene, officers found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was later identified as 24-year-old Debron Blaney, a Las Vegas resident who recently moved to San Diego.
Authorities performed life-saving measures on the victim before he was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.
Witnesses told police they saw the victim "engage in a disturbance" with the occupants of a silver pickup truck. Gunshots followed and the man then ran away as the truck drove off on College Avenue.
A responding officer spotted a vehicle that matched the suspect description fleeing the area at a high speed and pursued it for a brief moment. The occupants in the truck were detained and their possible involvement is being investigated. It is unclear how many people were taken into custody.
