Police Investigating Man's Suspicious Death in City Heights

Investigators are looking into the suspicious death of a man found in a drainage ditch Sunday in City Heights.

San Diego police received the call around 11:30 a.m. about the man found in the ditch behind a home in the 5100 block of Auburn Drive near John Marshall Elementary School.

When first responders arrived a few minutes later, they found the man, described as Asian in his 20s, with trauma to his upper body, San Diego police Lt. Anthony Dupree said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

Police do not have any suspect information at this time and the identity of the man has not been disclosed.

The discovery of the body has residents in the Fox Canyon neighborhood on edge.

"I initially thought I considered this a relatively safe area until this happened," Nicholas Hokam told NBC 7. "I've been pondering about that ever since I basically saw the body bag."

Some residents told NBC 7 they often see people walking through the drainage ditch even though there is a fence blocking access. Residents say people just cut the lock.

Anyone with any information about the incident was urged to the call the SDPD Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
