‘Frightening, Scary, Unsettling': Teen Injured in Linda Vista Drive-By Shooting

San Diego police are investigating a shooting that left one teen injured in Linda Vista Thursday afternoon.

The shooting targeted a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl who were standing on Morley Street at around 12:30 p.m., according to the San Diego Police Department.

The two teens were shot at by a silver four-door sedan with four to five people in the car, SDPD Lt. Michael Swanson said. One of the passengers started shooting six or seven times outside the car towards the teens.

The sedan drove away.

“I hear like a firework, like that, like smoke, fireworks, like, ‘Wow, where’s the party?’ It’s not a party,” said Jesus Martinez, who’s lived in the area for almost two decades. “It’s dangerous for everybody.”

The boy was grazed by a bullet on his stomach and was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital, said SDPD. It is unclear if the girl suffered any injuries.

Martinez’ roommate Nhung’s car was parked in the area, and her window was shattered by a stray bullet.

“Very scared, and now I don’t have a car to go somewhere,” Nhung told NBC 7.

Gustavo Pena, who also lives in the area with his 9-year-old daughter, said the shooting was “frightening, scary – unsettling.”

“We used to walk down this street when she went to preschool,” he said. “It is a fear of what if we are that random person, if this is a random act of violence,” he Pena said.

The 2400 block of Ulric Street was closed for a couple hours as SDPD conducted their investigation.

The location was near the Linda Vista Library and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego.
