Khalifa (born Cameron Jibril Thomaz) moved around a lot when he was younger but eventually settled in Pittsburgh and graduated from the city's Taylor Allderdice High School. Fun fact: The Pittsburgh City Council declared Dec. 12, 2012 to be Wiz Khalifa Day in the city.

Another interesting tidbit: His stage name is derived from "Khalifa," an Arabic word meaning "successor," and "wisdom," which was shortened to "Wiz" when he was a young boy. In a Spinner.com interview, he claimed the name came from being called "young Wiz 'cause I was good at everything I did, and my granddad is Muslim, so he gave me that name."

Khalifa was scouted early on -- Rostrum Records president Benjy Grinberg met the rapper when he was just 16 years old and immediately decided he wanted to work with him. He'd go on to release his first mixtape, "Prince of the City: Welcome to Pistolvania," in 2005, and his debut album "Show and Prove" in 2006 on the label.
