For the uninitiated, the Blues Brothers are a blues/soul revivalist band founded in 1978 by actors Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi for a "Saturday Night Live" comedy sketch.

Their namesake film was released in 1980 and has since become a cult comedy classic -- and featured performances by some of R&B, soul and blues' most prominent figures like Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Ray Charles, John Lee Hooker and more.

After John Belushi's untimely death in 1982, the band continued to perform with a rotation of guest singers and other band members -- including John Goodman as "Mighty Mack" McTeer and John's brother, Jim (pictured right), as "Brother Zee" Blues.

In 1998, a sequel to the original "Blues Brothers" film was released, titled "Blues Brothers 2000." To promote it, the band -- fronted by Aykroyd, Belushi (pictured) and Goodman -- performed at the halftime show of Super Bowl XXXI, along with ZZ Top and James Brown.

A faux news report had circulated prior to the show stating that "the Blues Brothers had escaped police custody and were on their way to the Louisiana Superdome," the site of that year's game.

While the band has been active since 1978, they've only got two studio albums to their name: 1992's "Red, White & Blues" and 2017's "The Last Shade of Blues Before Black." Other albums under their belts are live albums, soundtracks and compilations.
