A driver slammed into a home in Chollas View Thursday morning, crashing just feet from a bedroom where a 15-year-old resident was sleeping.
The accident happened around 4:40 a.m. at a home on 47th and C streets. Witnesses told officers with the San Diego Police Department (SDPD) that they saw a gray Nissan truck and SUV collide before the truck crashed into the house.
SDPD investigators said the driver of the SUV was traveling eastbound on C Street when he failed to yield to oncoming traffic, pulling out in front of the driver of the truck.
After the cars collided, the truck drifted and hit the house.
Police said the driver of the SUV, described as being in his 20s, fled the scene on foot before officers arrived. His involvement in the incident is being investigated as a hit-and-run.
Witness Kanisha Sanders said she heard the screeching of car tires, then a loud boom as the truck went through a metal gate and into her family's home.
She told NBC 7 that her teenage cousin was sleeping in her bedroom when the truck hit the house.
"It's pretty startling. I know she's very shaken up because she's so young," the witness said. "It's traumatizing."
Sanders said her aunt was also in the home, sitting in the living room, at the time of the crash.
"It's very scary to know that, in a couple of seconds, the house goes from no damage to just complete chaos," she added. "It's kind of scary."
The driver of the gray truck suffered a leg injury and was taken to a local hospital. No one else was hurt.
