Pickup Plows into Homes in Coincidence Crash

The driver is caring for an invalid who lives in the same home as a motorist who hit the same house four years ago, neighbors said.

The crash took place shortly before 1 p.m. on Thursday near the intersection of Camino Largo and Ridge Manor Avenue in the Navajo neighborhood of San Diego.

Police officer said a woman driving a pickup truck ran a stop sign, then smashed into the corner of a garage of one home before careening off that structure and through the wall of a house next door. In another piece of irony, the homeowners had built a wall after the first crash to prevent a re-occurrence of a similar crash, but the pickup managed to narrowly avoid that structure.

Sgt. James Reschky said that the driver of the pickup appareently suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. He also said she may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol and was going to be tested at the hospital

The crash woke up one of the homeowners, who said it sounded like an earthquake.

Police said it was very lucky that no one was more seriously injured or killed. The truck did sever some gas and electrical lines, prompting the evacuation of the residences on the opposite sides of the two homes, but a crew from San Diego Gas & Electric was able to shut off the utilities prior to an explosion.
