A convicted sex offender molested his roommate's young son, according to police in East County police.
Investigators said that while they were doing a compliance check of sex offenders living in the city of La Mesa, they went to a residence registered as the home of Garth Jason Gumienny in the 4500 block of Parks Avenue on April 14. While they were there, they said, they learned that Gumienny, 35, was sharing a room with a young boy.
Detectives interviewed the child and were told he had been molested by Gumienny several times while they were living together.
La Mesa police said the child is not related to Gumienny. The roommate was unaware of Gumienny's criminal past, according to police.
