Woman Struck, Killed on I-805 Off Ramp: CHP

Officers found the woman's body approximately 45-feet away from the car in the middle of the off-ramp.

A woman was struck and killed Thursday on an Interstate 805 off ramp in Bonita, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials said.

The collision happened shortly after 7 p.m. when officials responded to the report.

CHP said the woman, believed to be in her 50s, was outside of the car when she was hit. They believe she may have stopped because she had a flat tire.

"Anytime that you would ever find yourself in a position such as a flat tire, any type of mechanical issue when you can safely move your vehicle to the right shoulder or actually off the freeway, that would be most ideal," said CHP Sgt. Michael Vargas. "Remain inside your vehicle if at all possible with your seatbelt fastened."

A person who witnessed the collision reported it to CHP.

Officers found the woman's body approximately 45-feet away from the car in the middle of the off-ramp. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 25-year old man, stayed on scene. He did not suffer any injuries, CHP said.

A Sig Alert was issued for the ramp while authorities investigated.

No other information was immediately available.
