Man on Early Morning Jog Struck, Killed by Truck in Spring Valley

A 45-year-old man who was out for a jog in Spring Valley early Wednesday was struck and killed by an oncoming car, authorities said.

The man was struck by a truck while jogging in all dark clothing towards oncoming traffic on Jamacha Road west of Darby street at about 4:45 a.m., California Highway Patrol said.

He was not within a marked crosswalk, authorities said.

Medics with San Miguel Fire Protection District arrived on scene and attempted to resuscitate the jogger but he was declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck that struck the jogger, a 31-year-old from Spring Valley, stayed at the scene after the crash, CHP said. Drugs and alcohol were not suspected in the crash.

The identity of the jogger would not be released until family could be notified, CHP said.

During the investigation, traffic from Jamacha Boulevard was diverted.
