Pedestrian Struck and Killed in Oceanside May Have Been Hit Twice

A pedestrian was struck and killed crossing an Oceanside street outside of the crosswalk Friday.

Oceanside Police (OPD) says a 39-year-old-male was crossing Mission Avenue when he was hit by a truck traveling westbound at around 9:37 p.m.

OPD and Oceanside Fire Department (OFD) arrived on scene within two minute, according to police, but were unable to save the victim. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver at of the truck stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. At this time, drugs, alcohol or speed do not appear to be a factor in the accident.

Witness to the collision reported to police that there was a second vehicle that hit the pedestrians while he was lying in the street. They say that second vehicle did not stop.

OPD received a partial description of the second vehicle and is currently investigating.

Investigators ask that anyone with information call OPD Accident Investigator Bryan Hendrix at (760)435-4882.
