Suspect in Custody in Deadly Ramona Hit-and-Run Crash

A man was taken into custody Tuesday in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a woman in Ramona.

CHP officers found the woman's body in the street near the intersection of Highland Valley Road and Handlebar Road at around 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Crash debris at the scene indicated to investigators that the woman was the victim of a hit-and-run.

Neighbors also told investigators they heard a loud noise followed by a woman screaming.

Officers searched the area for a dark-colored Lincoln SUV or sedan believed to be connected to the debris left at the scene.

Several hours later, officers said they had located a Lincoln Navigator with front-end damage parked outside of the Albertsons grocery store on Main Street.

The vehicle's registration led officers to an address where the suspect was located and taken into custody at 3 a.m., CHP said.

He was later identified as Daniel Juarez, 25, of Ramona.

Juarez was booked on felony hit and run, misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter and a violation of probation, CHP officials said.

Investigators said it doesn't appear neither alcohol nor drug use was a factor in the collision.

No information was given on the identity of the victim.
