A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car Thursday night while crossing the street near Jamul Casino.
The deadly crash happened around 9:30 p.m. along the 14000 block of State Route 94 at Peaceful Valley Ranch Road, less than a mile north of the casino.
California Highway Patrol Officer Travis Garrow said the woman, who was identified days later as 22-year-old Tiffany Rose King, was not walking in a crosswalk when she stepped into lanes of SR-94 just as a driver approached.
The driver was in a 1994 Chevrolet Astro Van heading eastbound. He hit the woman as she walked.
A Cal Fire medic who was responding to another nearby collision stopped to help the woman, giving her CPR, but was unable to save her, according to a Cal Fire Spokesperson.
The pedestrian died at the scene from blunt force trauma, the Medical Examiner;s Office said.
The driver of the van stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
