A pedestrian was struck and killed by a San Diego police cruiser Monday in Lincoln Park.
The San Diego Police Department confirmed the victim died as a result of serious injuries suffered in the collision.
The crash was reported on the 200 block 47th Street near the intersection of Franklin Avenue and just before 8 p.m.
SDPD said the patrol car was headed northbound toward Franklin when it hit the pedestrian who was crossing from west to east outside of the crosswalk.
Surveillance cameras fixed on the intersection caught the impact and showed the officer immediately turn on the SUV's emergency lights, pull over and check on the victim.
The victim died hours later at the hospital, SDPD said.
Neighbors told NBC 7 the day after the crash that it was only a matter of time before a tragedy like this occurred because the intersection is so dangerous.
Police had 47th Street blocked off from Imperial Avenue to Ocean View Boulevard while they investigated the crash.
The neighborhood is located just east of Interstate 805, south of the Imperial Avenue exit.
