Police Search for Gunman Who Shot Man Outside Midway Concert

The San Diego Police Department is searching for a shooter who wounded a young man in the Midway District after a concert late Saturday night.

Officers said the 25-year-old victim got into an argument with a group of men, shortly after leaving a concert at the Pechanga Arena at about 11:20 pm.

Someone then pulled out a gun and fired, wounding the victim in the leg, according to SDPD. The man was rushed to the hospital, though his injuries were not life-threatening.

โ€œIt definitely shocked me to hear,โ€ said Dalton Strobel, a San Diego resident who frequently attends events at the arena. โ€œUsually pretty safe. We go to Gulls games pretty often. Especially on Friday night. Never had any problems.โ€

A man inside the concert, Glenn Trujillo, told NBC 7 he had no idea there had been a shooting. Trujillo said that things were peaceful inside the arena.

โ€œI brought my six-year-old grandson with us and he had a great time too. It was a family-friendly event,โ€ said Trujillo.

Trujillo said heโ€™s attended all types of events at Pechanga Arena and looks forward to returning for another concert.

While people express surprise over the violence, local police continue to investigate.

The operators of Pechanga Arena are aware of the shooting. A spokesperson said, โ€œWe have a very safe building. We have extra screenings for bags prior to entering. At this time, we are not increasing security.โ€
