Padres Lose on Walk-Off, Drop Interleague Series against Rangers

The Padres were wrangled by the Texas Rangers in the final game of the interleague series Thursday, losing in walk-off fashion 5-2.

The Friars were first to get on the board when infielder Ryan Schimpf hit an RBI single that plated Matt Szczur and gave San Diego an early 1-0 lead. That was the score well into the game until Padres outfielder Manuel Margot hit a sacrifice fly to left field and scored catcher Austin Hedges in the seventh inning.

Lefty Clayton Richard seemed to have a handle on things on the mound for the Padres. Richards didn’t give up any runs through seven innings of work.

That all changed in the eighth inning when Rangers first baseman Mike Napoli belted a 436-foot home run to left field and cut the Rangers deficit to one.

Napoli wasn’t done just yet. With the scored tied 2-2 in the ninth, the MLB All-Star added the exclamation point with a three run walk-off homer to left center field.

Up next the Padres head to Chicago to face the White Sox in a three-game set. The first pitch from Guaranteed Rate Field is set for 5:10 p.m. PST on Friday May 12.
