Padres Even Series against the Marlins

Franmil Reyes Hits 3rd Homer of the Season

On the same night the San Diego Padres organization rallied behind their iconic sportscaster Ted Leitner as he faces a battle with cancer, the players rallied to give the iconic voice of the Padres another victory before he starts his treatment.

In the stands at Petco Park a fan held a sign that read “San Diego loves our Uncle Ted.” Wednesday will be the third game in this series against Miami for the Frairs and the last in the broadcast booth for Leitner until he returns from treatment.

Friars outfielder Franmil Reyes hit his third home run of the season in the sixth inning. The two-run homer to left center field gave the Padres the 5-4 lead. Christian Villanueva did his part in the bottom of the eighth inning. With the bases loaded the rookie sent an RBI single to center field. That plated Eric Hosmer and Jose Pirela and added to the Padres advantage.

The Padres split the series with a 9-5 victory over the Marlins. Game three is set for Wednesday May 30 at 7:10 p.m. PST at Petco Park.
