A small golden fluff ball, that's how Sandy is described by those who see her. But Sandy's story didn't start off a happy one, Sandy actually died on the operating table during what seemed like a normal surgery.
Sandy, a 4-month-old Lab mix, was brought to Rancho Coastal Humane Society with her six siblings nearly two months ago. When Sandy went in to be spayed she had a very uncommon response to the anesthesia. She was violently allergic.
"Her vital signs began to drop until her heart actually stopped," said Rancho Coastal Humane Society's Nick Winfrey.
The medical staff sprang into action and was able to resuscitate her and keep her alive Winfrey said, but Sandy ended-up in a coma. The RCHS medical staff watched her like a hawk for the first two days and soon Sandy began to make progress.
Sandy began playing with her toys and snuggling close to her human friends.
But Sandy's weakened immune system caused her to catch ringworm and she ended up in the hospital again, Winfrey said.
"After further treatment, rehabilitation, and constant attention from RCHS volunteers and staff Sandy is now completely recovered and appears to be a normal, goofy puppy," Winfrey said.
Now, this cuddly fur ball is looking for a home.
"This miracle puppy has fought tooth and nail to make it this far and now she asks for is a loving family to call her own," Winfrey said.
