An 84-year-old woman was killed when she was struck by a Sunshine Care Assisted Living van that started rolling down Monte Vista Road Friday afternoon.
The woman, a resident of Sunshine Care, was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead in the ICU.
The 25-year-old driver of the vehicle was rescued from underneath the van after she became trapped when it started rolling. She is expected to be okay.
There was at least one other resident and a caregiver inside the vehicle at the time.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, The incident occurred at 4 p.m. on the 12700 block of Monte Vista Road, off Pomerado Road. The area is near the Sunshine Care facility.
The driver tried to jump in the van when it started rolling but became trapped under the driver side wheel, SDSO said.
The resident and the caregiver inside the vehicle were not hurt.
No other information was available.
