One woman initially declared dead at the scene of a crash was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries when paramedics found a faint pulse, authorities said.
The 56-year-old woman, who has not been identified, was driving a Toyota SUV on the 3500 block of Camino Del Rio South in Mission Valley at approximately 6:30 p.m. when the crash happened.
For an unknown reason, the driver started to speed up and crossed over a lane and into the center turn lane. The driver continued through the westbound lanes of Camino Del Rio and jumped the curb, police said.
Her car flew through a fence and landed on eastbound Interstate 8 flipped over, west of Mission Gorge Road, police said.
Initially, the woman was declared dead when the first paramedics arrived on the scene, said San Diego police. Once later paramedics arrived they were able to detect a faint pulse on the woman and rushed her to a nearby hospital.
Two other people were also injured in the crash, officials said.
The crash is under investigation.
