Sketch Shows Man Seen Riding Rideshare Bike at Time of Slaying Near Old Town

Police have released a sketch of the man seen riding a yellow rideshare bicycle who they believe killed a 65-year-old man near Old Town early Saturday.

Steven Barnes, 65, had cuts and trauma to his chest when he was found lying on the sidewalk in the 4500 block of Pacific Highway around 2 a.m. Saturday, the San Diego Police Department (SDPD) said.

Despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A sketch released Friday shows an 18- to 25-year-old man with a thin build, standing about 5 feet, 8 inches or 5 feet, 10 inches with a goatee and dark, shoulder-length hair.

SDPD said the man was last seen wearing tan shorts with red stripes and a light-colored shirt. He had a black backpack with white stripes and was believed to be riding a yellow bicycle from the rideshare company OFO.

SDPD Homicide detectives continue to investigate the incident. They asked anyone with information to contact them at (619) 531-2293.
