Officials responded to a call of a brush fire near Chollas Parkway Saturday afternoon.
San Diego Fire-Rescue responded to the call around 1 p.m. in the 5700 block of Bates Street where the fire managed to burn a half-acre of brush.
“Officials found a fire rapidly ascending a hillside behind an apartment building, they attacked the fire quickly and were able to extinguish it in about 20 minutes,” SDFD Deputy Chief Steve Wright said.
No evacuations were ordered.
Heartland Fire and Rescue and the Poway Fire Department also assisted.
The rapid response comes after SDFD said they would increase staffing for the next two days due to expected Santa Ana winds.
