Son Arrested in Connection With Oceanside Woman's Death

An Oceanside woman died under suspicious circumstances and police on Sunday have one of her sons in custody as a person of interest in her death.

Police were called around 12:30 p.m. to the home on the 3900 block of Shenandoah Drive where one of the 63-year-old woman's other sons found her dead on the couch, Oceanside police Sgt. Tom Bussey said.

The woman, identified Monday as Regina Sardina, was supposed to visit another one of her sons in Las Vegas, he said.

"When she didn't show another son came over and checked and found her," Bussey said. The woman has three sons, he said.

Police did not disclose how the woman died, only saying that she had severe trauma to her chest.

Her Mercedes was found abandoned at a nearby Hobby Lobby and vomit was found outside the car along with a bottle of alcohol, Det. Sgt. John McKean said.

A surveillance camera showed the third son, identified as 37-year-old Anthony Sardina, exit the car and catch a cab to Carlsbad.

The son was located in Carlsbad and was taken into custody. It is not clear what charges he is facing.

Oceanside police blocked off Shenandoah Drive for several hours for the investigation.
